The Golden Gate Railroad Museum is pleased to announce the release of Rolling Thunder in the Canyon, a new video produced by Journey Films for the GGRM. See Southern Pacific 2472 and the heritage railcar collection of the Golden Gate Railroad Museum as you have never seen them before! This official video production takes you behind the scenes to show you footage of the first revenue steam up for the 2472 after her FRA Re-certification. Get a glimpse into how the engine was returned to service after her life as a static display in San Mateo, CA and how the most recent rebuild was accomplished. You will see rare footage shot 2472 during her first revenue operation in May of 2008. This includes a virtual cab ride, trackside footage, Locomotive "point of view footage", driver slips, and video pacing the locomotive on the beautiful Niles Canyon Railway. You will also see never before filmed footage of a UP diesel pacing the 2472 on the other side of the canyon! Also included are rare interviews with the Railway Post Office Workers who worked on RPO Car UP5901 from the famed City of San Francisco train that ran on the Overland Express from San Francisco to Chicago. This is the only remaining car from the famed streamliner train that was snowbound at Donner Pass in January of 1952. Included are in-depth presentations of the GGRM's SP141 Oakland; a former SP executive business car, and the footage of the recent restoration and return to service of the rare Art Deco lounge car SP2979. Do not miss your opportunity to learn more about the heritage equipment of the GGRM while supporting the restoration efforts of the GGRM through your purchase!
